GIS 245 - GIS 1
Associated Term: Winter 2026
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Create, edit, and manage databases within a GIS
2. Utilize data literacy skills in written and oral communication, including data verification, interpretation, and error correction in data inconsistencies
3. Collect, edit, and analyze data for geographic displays
4. Interpret and communicate complex phenomena through the use of data analysis tools
5. Summarize cartographic applications of information from various measurement & methods, including quantitative and qualitative values
6. Apply analytical skills to various phenomena in order to display the diversity of human behavior through the use of US census data, demographic analysis, & environmental analysis
