Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1.Define terminology as presented in this course 2. Demonstrate understanding of ionizing radiation and basic principles of x-ray generation 3.Determine and/or correct factors influencing image formation and image receptors 4. Know biological effects of radiation, benefit and hazard to society 5. Know and demonstrate radiological health protection and safety measures 6. Demonstrate the technique and understand the indications for use of the vertical bitewing radiograph 7. Know legal issues and guidelines related to dental radiology, including informed consent 8. Demonstrate ability to expose and process phosphor and silicone sensors appropriately 9. Identify normal radiographic landmarks and artifacts as they appear on film 10. Identify various radiographic surveys and film types 11. Demonstrate correct intraoral radiographic techniques, and how to avoid common exposure errors 12. Using viewing techniques, correctly mount an FMX within a specified amount of time 13. Utilize appropriate aseptic techniques in all clinical radiology areas and procedures 14. Know and utilize effective communication techniques to understand and respond to patient concerns 15.
