BI 112 - Cell Biology for Health Occupations
Associated Term: Fall 2024
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Effectively evaluate and communicate the steps involved in scientific inquiry and apply them to biological concepts
2. Compare and contrast the morphological and biochemical properties of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
3. Describe and model the processes of cell growth and division including how the process is regulated and consequences of the loss of regulation
4. Relate the structure of DNA to its replication, role in protein production, and importance in human genetics and diseases
5. Explain and diagram how cellular organelles and the cell membrane accomplish critical functions, including membrane transport, resting membrane potential, cell signaling, and the acquisition and use of energy
6. Summarize how cells respond to changes to the internal or external environment to maintain homeostasis
