Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, a student will be able to: 1. Develop a vocabulary of appropriate terminology to effectively evaluate and communicate information in a way that reflects knowledge and understanding of microbiological concepts and demonstrates the ability to collaborate and adapt information to different audiences and applications 2. Describe microbial structures and explain the unique physiological differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells 3. Explain and apply the principles of microbial growth, microbial control, infectious disease prevention and treatment, therapeutic agents, and vaccinations 4. Use appropriate techniques to inoculate, incubate, isolate, inspect, differentiate, and identify microorganisms, subsequent to documenting results and conclusions 5. Explain principles of epidemiology, immunology and pathogenesis of representative infectious diseases 6. Apply knowledge of microbiology to a clinically-oriented, evidence-based perspective regarding the role of microbes in health and illness, prevention and treatment and homeostatic imbalances Required Materials: Technical Requirements: |
