BI 212 - Principles of Biology
Associated Term: Winter 2021
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Draw and explain a model of homeostasis and feedback loops in biological systems. Apply these general concepts to a new situation. 2. Construct a cladogram from an organism/trait matrix illustrating the evolution of life from single-celled protists to multicelled plants and animals. 3. Compare the two cladograms and synthesize evolutionary trends within autotrophs and heterotrophs. 4. Analyze and draw conclusions from data in table or graph form. 5. Locate, evaluate, and utilize appropriate scientific research when predicting outcomes of experiments. 6. Collect, manage, and share data across multiple sections for a multi-week experiment. 7. Analyze data from large data sets to support individual hypotheses. Critique limits of data. 8. Differentiate the goals of both basic and applied research and give examples of each to demonstrate the similarities and differences between them.
