PN 103 - Practical Nursing 3
Associated Term: Spring 2020
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Access and interpret current, reliable information about selected pathophysiological processes. 2. Study theory content that continues to expand on knowledge in selecting and interpreting focused nursing assessments. the clinical manifestations of and developmental considerations in selected pathophysiological processes in patients across the life span, such as focus on surgery, high-risk childbirth and the reproductive system, pediatric illness, cancer, grief and loss and mental health concerns. 3. Demonstrate understanding of the nursing responsibilities in the clinical setting, which include patient education for selected patients in acute, long-term and ambulatory care. 4. Demonstrate use of current, reliable information about drugs and natural products and construct appropriate nursing intervention to increase therapeutic benefits and reduce potential negative effects of pharmacologic therapy. 5. Apply American Nursing Association (ANA) Code of Ethics to care of all clients. 6. Use therapeutic communication skills in the development of therapeutic relationships with clients and families. 7. Demonstrate culturally, age appropriate health assessment, and interpret health data focusing on physiologic, developmental, and behavioral parameters of condition manifestation progression and resolution, and the client response to acute conditions/processes. 8. Contribute to and collaborate with other health care team members in the development and implementation of a family-centered plan of care for selected patients. 9. Evaluate patient responses to interventions. 10. Recognize unsafe practice or ethical dilemmas and act with moral courage to report to appropriate authority. This is consistent with the role of mandatory reporter and as applicable to their scope of practice. 11. Locate and utilize evidence-based practice in demonstrating understanding of clinical practice guidelines and/or standard procedures. 12. Demonstrate understanding of responsibilities associated with delegation, supervision, and quality improvement strategies for patient care to other members of the health care team and consult with experienced nurses as needed. 13.
