MUS 290 - Gospel Choir
Associated Term: Winter 2020
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: 1. Place each musical selection into the following African-American sacred music categories: spirituals, anthems, hymns, traditional gospel, and contemporary gospel. 2. Describe the cultural/historical context. 3. Sing/play gospel music. 4. Evaluate the performance of the gospel choir in terms of his/her own subjective reaction, both positive and negative. 5. Evaluate the performance of the gospel choir in terms of musical style and interpretation. 6. Demonstrate good vocal technique, including vocal production and aural skills (learn by ear). 7. Demonstrate knowledge of stylistic improvisation. 8. Demonstrate use of basic music terminology.
