BA 224 - Human Resource Management
Associated Term: Fall 2017
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Understand the functions of human resource management. 2. Explain the challenges today’s human resource managers currently face 3. Understand government legislation and regulation and the related court interpretations as they relate to human resources. 4. Understand equal employment opportunity and compliance. 5. Understand job analysis, job design, job descriptions, and job specifications. 6. Explain requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. 7. Understand how human resource planners identify skills and forecast needs. 8. Describe advantages and disadvantages of the various methods of recruitment. 9. Describe the steps of the employee selection process. 10. Understand employee orientation and employee training. 11. Describe the steps involved in designing and implementing a career development program. 12. Describe performance appraisal systems. 13. Understand organizational reward systems. 14. Explain the difference between wage and salary systems. 15. Understand incentive-based pay systems. 16. Describe employee benefits and differentiate between those that are legally required. 17. Understand the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. 18. Understand employee relations and the role human resources plays in that relationship. 19. Explain the difference between union and non-union shops. 20. Understand collective bargaining.
