Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Read music notation (pitch and rhythm in treble and bass clefs) 2. Demonstrate and use basic technical skills including the ability to play scale patterns with proper fingering in major and minor (optional) keys, and to play tonic, subdominant, dominant, and dominant-seventh chord progressions in major and minor keys. 3. Play piano music of appropriate difficulty. 4. Be able to provide a chord-al background for singing. 5. Demonstrate simple transposition and improvisational skills.
