Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Utilize independent and critical thinking skills along with current best practices when making health-related decisions or evaluating health-related recommendations. 2. Examine the difference between evidence based and non-evidence based research related to health and fitness. 3. Explain the importance of lifelong physical activity on all dimensions of health. 4. Describe how the foundations of physical activity relate to optimal health. 5. Identify safe and realistic guidelines in achieving and maintaining healthy weight and body composition. 6. Recognize the relationship between healthy nutrition practices, optimal fitness and health. 7. Explain how regular physical activity can help manage stress and prevent chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis. 8. Differentiate between common sleep practices in the U.S. in comparison to optimal sleep practices. 9. Discuss current sleep recommendations and the health consequences of sleep deprivation. 10.
