Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Apply analytical skills to social phenomena in order to understand human behavior: Students will collect, general, evaluate and create data that addresses a community spatial need – For example Eugene Community Park Use Maps. 2. Apply knowledge and experience to foster personal growth and better appreciate the diverse social world in which we live: Students will collect, general, evaluate and create data that addresses a community spatial need – For example Eugene Community Park Use Maps. 3. Understand the role of individuals and institutions within the context of society. Students will: understand the needs of geospatial project data and data management. 4. Assess different theories and concepts, and understand the distinctions between empirical and other methods of inquiry. Students will: understand data collection methods and needs determine the data process methodologies. 5. Utilize appropriate information literacy skills in written and oral communication. Students will be able to choose appropriate information/data needed to address specific problems. They will be able to evaluate information /data accuracy and adjust necessary data parameters. Students will discuss the ethical dilemmas related to the creation and use of spatial data and its impact on: The GIS profession, GIS colleagues, and the public. 6. Understand the diversity of human experience and thought, individually and collectively. Students will: understand the diversity of work teams. 7. Apply knowledge and skills to contemporary problems and issues. Students will: collect, edit, and analysis data that meets the needs of a local business or agency. ie. Eugene Community Park Use Maps.
