EXMS 235 - Applied Exercise Physiology 2
Associated Term: Fall 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Describe the processes of temperature regulation for exercising in hot/cold environments. 2. Outline environmental factors affecting performance. 3. Define the principles of training and the physiological effects of detraining. 4. Describe the physiology of disease/chronic processes for special populations. 5. Describe the effects of exercise on special populations and design programs for those populations. 6. Identify nutritional goals and principles. 7. Explain the causes of obesity and effective weight loss programs. 8. Describe the physiological effects of exercise and nutrition on body composition. 9. Discuss factors limiting performance and ways to improve specific types of exercise. 10. Identify the varying factors involved in achieving optimum performance in sport. 11. Assess and monitor factors affecting sport performance and, based on the attained knowledge, apply the correct principles to exercise and sport. 12. Differentiate between the needs of varying populations (depending on gender, age, health status) in regards to exercise and sport. 13. Outline nutritional guidelines for athletes.
