WR 089 - Academic Writing for ELL Students
Associated Term: Spring 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Write sentences without major grammatical error using conventional punctuation. Use complex sentences. 2. Paraphrase and summarize non-simplified materials. 3. Use logical connectors and transition words to link ideas. 4. Develop clearly focused paragraphs with adequate support and indentation. 5. Write longer compositions with unity and coherence. 6. Write personal reactions to readings. 7. Use vocabulary correctly in context. 8. Learn the basics about essay exams. 9. Within a workshop setting, demonstrate use of appropriate transitions between sentences and between paragraphs. 10. Within a workshop setting, demonstrate constructive critique and revision of his/her own work and the work of others. 11. Within a workshop setting, recognize and correct common errors in sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar.
