MUS 113 - Music Theory 1 (Third Term)
Associated Term: Spring 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Notate and identify intervals, key signatures, time signatures, rhythms, scales, triads, 7th chords, augmented 6th chords, Neapolitan 6ths, and secondary dominants. 2. Part-write from a given melody or figured bass in four parts using modulations and altered chords. 3. Write arrangements and transpositions. 4. Analyze chord progressions and non-harmonic tones in written music, figured bass or chord symbols from Baroque, Classical, early Romantic and basic lead sheets. 5. Write about music using appropriate terminology that relates to the class. 6. Compose original music and have it performed in class.
