MTH 096 - Using the Scientific Graphing Calculator
Associated Term: Spring 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Utilize the basic keys and menus of the graphing calculator. 2. Utilize the calculator's memory to store, recall, and use numeric values and expressions. 3. Enter and evaluate a function and compare results with an algebraic method. 4. Set and modify a viewing window to capture a function's important graphical features (the complete graph). 5. Use the tracing, zoom and menu features to explore features of a graph and to estimate values from a graph. 6. Use effective strategies (a blend of analytical, visual and calculator) to appropriately analyze and interpret graphs. 7. Solve equations graphically and compare the graphical solutions with mental estimates and algebraic methods of solving. 8. Solve time-value of money problems using the finance features. 9. Use the stats features to draw a scatter diagram, find a regression equation, interpret the fit, and make predictions. 10. Understand the connection between the language of the calculator and the language of algebra. (For example, the zero feature and an x –intercept of a graph.) 11. Feel confident about his/her knowledge of the graphing calculator as he/she prepares for math 111. 12. Utilize other features of the graphing calculator, time permitting
