HIT 222 - Reimbursement Methodologies
Associated Term: Spring 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Expand product specific knowledge health insurance industry. 2. Increase insurance/health insurance vocabulary. 3. Understand of ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding and its relationship to the total reimbursement process. 4. Have an introduction to patient management, including billing policies and practices, as well as managing patient needs and expectations. 5. Review and reinforce abstracting necessary information from various documents in order to complete a clean claim. 6. Identify guidelines for completing the CMS-1500 for many different 3rd party payers with the goal of filing clean claims and filtering out the bad claims before they enter the system. 7. Understand reimbursement systems common to medical practices.
