EXMS 227 - Introduction to Exercise Science
Associated Term: Spring 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Understand how exercise physiology is related to human performance. Explain the basic function of the cardiovascular and energy supply systems. 2. Describe career paths and employment opportunities in the exercise science field. 3. Demonstrate ability to complete an exercise prescription from data gained from learned exercise testing techniques. 4. Discuss nutritional needs of athletes and the general population, addressing how nutrition affects exercise performance. 5. Describe biomechanical principles and their significance in the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. 6. Explain the principles of injury evaluation, emergency care, and treatment of athletic injuries. 7. Discuss the importance of motivation and personality on exercise performance. 8. Understand how exercise physiology is related to human performance. Explain the basic function of the cardiovascular and energy supply systems.
