RT 262 - Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care
Associated Term: Winter 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Describe the phases of development of the cardiopulmonary system in the fetus 2. Describe the transitional changes in the cardiopulmonary system at birth 3. Understand problems that can occur during the birthing process 4. Describe commonly used newborn assessment tools 5. Describe special assessment techniques for predicting or identifying respiratory distress in the fetus and neonate 6. Describe special concerns and appropriate management approaches in the newborn 7. List the risk factors, clinical manifestations and management approaches for cardiopulmonary disorders in the newborn 8. Describe pathological and physiological abnormalities of congenital cardiac and respiratory disorders in newborns and pediatrics 9. Describe and understand resuscitative procedures for newborns, infants and pediatrics 10. Understand the presentation, diagnosis and treatment of neonatal and pediatric disorders 11. Describe guidelines for mechanical ventilation of neonatal and pediatric patients 12. Understand the special monitoring techniques used in the intensive care unit
