RT 127 - Respiratory Care Diseases and Medications
Associated Term: Winter 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Identify and understand safety and legal issues integral to medication administration 2. Understand and describe the effects of nervous system on the cardiopulmonary system, and how medications act on the nervous system to cause desired effects. 3. Identify and describe normal and abnormal airway physiology/ pathophysiology and related medical treatment 4. Describe mechanics of ventilation and differentiate normal from abnormal breathing patterns 5. Understand and describe cardiac function. Differentiate between systemic and pulmonary circulation, describe patterns of circulatory dysfunction and treatment 6. Identify and describe process of pulmonary gas exchange, influencing factors, and contribution to acid-base balance and overall oxygenation 7. Correctly interpret arterial blood gas values for acid-base disturbances, and oxygenation 8. Describe the application of therapeutic gases for the treatment of cardiopulmonary disorders and delivery of aerosolized medication 9. Identify and understand medications used for advanced cardiac life support and neuromuscular blockade.
