SOC 218 - Sociology of Gender |
Sociological analysis and research on gender as an
organizing principle in social life. Examines how gender
differences are socially constructed, maintained, and
changed through the practices of social institutions,
including family, education, media, the economy, and
politics. Investigates the influence of gender on
face-to-face social interactions and individual social
identity. Attention is given to diversity in experiences of
gender related to race, ethnicity, social class, age, sexual
orientation, and other socially significant differences.
Explores social movements concerned with gender issues,
including contemporary feminism and men's movements.
