ES 101 - Historical Racial & Ethnic Iss |
Ethnic Studies 101 focuses on the nature and complexity of
ethnic and racial diversity in U.S. society. The course will
expose students to current developments in scholarship
dedicated to the root causes of dominant-minority group
conflict. Topics of study include: the social construction
of race and ethnicity, theories of prejudice, U.S.
immigration history, gender oppression, a historical
analysis of African Americans, Hispanics, Chinese and
Japanese Americans. The course will conclude with a
comparative analysis of the impact of colonialism globally.
ES 101 and ES 102 do not have to be taken in sequence.
