Foundational principles of genetics including cell division,
Mendelian Inheritance, chromosome structure, and the
molecular basis of gene action. All organisms pass on
characteristics to the next generation. Sources of genetic
variation and disorders in humans are emphasized. Current
issues such as genetic cloning and the Human Genome Project
are discussed throughout the course as well as discussions
about the impact of new genetic information on human ethics
and values in our society.
