PN 102A - Practical Nursing 2
Prerequisite: PN 101A and PN 101B. Corequisite: PN 102B. Classroom content continues the application of the nursing process and the practical nursing scope of practice in selected medical-surgical areas including care of patients with integumentary, neurological, cardiovascular, endocrine, respiratory, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, and renal disorders, and care of the patient having surgery. Fluid and electrolyte balance, pain management, and chronic illness care are also included in this course. Skills taught this term include care of ostomies and nasogastric and small -bore feeding tubes, urinary catheter insertion, capillary blood sugar measurement, injectable and enteral medication administration, oxygen administration, surgical asepsis, care of wounds, sutures, drains and tubes. Clinical application of theory content will take place in the Simulation lab and in the long-term care setting. May be offered in a format with some online instructions.
