Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Implement services that promote oral health and prevent oral disease and related conditions with multicultural groups 2. Perform assessment planning, implementation and evaluation phases of community-based oral health programs 3. Provide dental services in a variety of settings which may include hospitals, clinics, offices, hospices, extended care settings, community programs, and schools emphasizing smoking cessation, geriatrics and indigent populations 4. Develop a perspective on dental hygiene’s relationship to the overall health care system for geriatric, disabled and indigent 5. Use evidence based oral health research to implement preventive programs in community dental hygiene activities 6. Evaluate safety and efficacy of oral health products and treatments for community groups 7. Employ the principles of scientific writing in reports and implemented ideas within projects completed during the term 8. Plan and evaluate the outcomes of community based programs and plan for future activities 9. Evaluate individual and populations risk factors and develop strategies that promote health related quality of life 10.
