Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Use inductive reasoning to discover geometric relationships. 2. Know and be able to use the common terms for 2 and 3 dimensional geometric figures. 3. Understand concepts of perimeter, area, volume, and surface area. 4. Apply the Pythagorean theorem to a variety of situations. 5. Identify congruent triangles. 6. Apply the theory of parallel lines in appropriate situations. 7. Apply similar triangles and the basic trigonometric relations in applied situations. 8. Use tools such as the compass, protractor, and computer to create geometric diagrams and patterns. 9. Use algebra to solve geometric problems. 10. Understand and write simple proofs. 11. Explain the application of geometry to a chosen topic of interest (project-optional).
