ART 255 - Alchemy of Ceramics: Materiality, Chemistry, and Kiln Firing
Associated Term: Spring 2022
Learning Objectives: Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1. Acquire an understanding of ceramic materials, applications and kiln firing processes
2. Independently test or mix clays and glazes to inform outcomes of studio work
3. Critically think to develop thoughtful approaches and creative problem solving in the use of ceramic material in personal art studio practice
4. Exercise safe and healthy studio practices in the use of ceramic materials, chemicals and firing of kilns
5. Exercised written & verbal skills documentation - written records of lab observations
6. Have a deeper knowledge base of ceramic theory, history and contemporary practice to inform individual studio work
