DH 234 - Trends and Issues in Dental Hygiene |

Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Understand information relating to current trends in the dental and dental hygiene profession to include preceptorship and self-regulation. 2. Investigate the integration of dental hygienists into general, specialty, and non-traditional practice settings. 3. Explore the Oregon Dental Practice Act and changes that are specific to dental hygiene. 4. Gain a better comprehension of his/her legal and ethical responsibilities to the patient/client. 5. Explore avenues for choosing a dental hygiene career and for securing a position as a dental hygienist. 6. Conduct an investigative interview with a practicing dental hygienist. 7. Participate in discussion of qualifications for employment and interviewing techniques. 8. Prepare a resume and cover letter that represents him/her in a positive manner.
