EMT 171 - Emergency Response Patient Transportation
Associated Term: Spring 2020
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Identify the current local and state standards that influence ambulance design, equipment requirements, and staffing of ambulances: National standards, State standards, ORS 820.300 thru 380 Ambulances and Traffic Laws, OAR 333-255-060 Ambulance Construction Criteria, OAR 333-255-0070, 71, 72 Ambulance Staffing, Local standards 2. Discuss the concept of “due regard for the safety of all others” while operating an emergency vehicle. 3. Describe the considerations that should be given to using escorts, adverse environmental conditions, using lights and sirens, proceeding through intersections, and parking at an emergency scene. 4. Discuss importance of completing an equipment/supply checklist. 5. Discuss factors to be considered when determining ambulance stationing within a community. 6. KKK ambulance standards; End-stage vehicle manufacturing standards; state rules and regulations 7. Emergency vehicle operations: driving skills, vehicle checks, maneuvering skills, staging or positioning, and on-scene warning devices 8. Emergency response driving techniques and experience 9. Laws of motion 10. Vehicle maintenance, safety checks, and inspection 11. Map books and route selection
