Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the successful student will be able to: 1- Set GMAW machine controls to effect short ars, spray arc and pulsed arc metal transfer while using solid wire of various sizes. 2- Select and properly connect to a GMAW power source appropriate shielding gases necessary to short arc and spray arc metal transfer. 3- Prepare typical industrial weld joints, make welds on these joints in the four standard positions, and perform destructive and non-destructive tests on those weldments. Prepare materials, outline testing procedures, make welds, prepare test specimens, and execute testing procedures consistent with certain pre-qualified American Welding Society code tests. 4- Identify the type, cause, and solution to weld defects typically associated with GMAW short arc, spray arc and pulsed arc metal transfer. 5- Perform minor maintenance on GMAW equipment associated with contact tip, liner and drive rolls.
