MUS 261 - Music History
Associated Term: Fall 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Achieve an understanding of musical styles of the time periods studied through a study of major concepts, composers, and compositions. 2. Apply stylistic concepts to his/her own performance. 3. Analze specific formal procedures and compositional techniques. 4. Read instrumental and/or vocal scores. 5. Identify the time periods studied and possible composer within twenty years, given an unknown composition. 6. Differentiate between the quality of a performance and the intrinsic value of composition. 7. Identify the culture, race, and gender issues in the studied time periods and how this has influenced the development of our written musical tradition.
