Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the successful student should be able to: AV 281-1 POWERPLANT 01 (Reciprocating Engines) 1. Inspect and repair a radial engine. 2. Overhaul reciprocating engine. 3. Inspect, check, service, and repair reciprocating engines and engine installations. 4. Install, troubleshoot, and remove reciprocating engines (see POWERPLANT 02, Turbines). AV 281-2 POWERPLANT 02 (Turbine Engines & Auxiliary Power Plants) 5. Overhaul turbine engine. 6. Inspect, check, service, and repair turbine engines and turbine engine installations. 7. Install, troubleshoot, and remove turbine engines. 8. Inspect, check, service, and troubleshoot turbine-driven auxiliary power units. 9. Install, troubleshoot, and remove reciprocating engines. (From POWERPLANT I, Powerplant 01 A). 10. Install, troubleshoot, and remove reciprocating engines. (From POWERPLANT, I. Powerplant 01 A). AV 281-3 POWERPLANT 03 11. Repair engine cooling system components. 12. Inspect, check, troubleshoot, service, and repair engine cooling systems. 13. Inspect, check, service, and repair carburetor air intake and induction manifolds. 14. Repair engine ignition system components. 15. Overhaul magneto and ignition harness. 16. Repair engine exhaust system components. 17. Inspect, check, service, troubleshoot, and repair engine exhaust systems. 18. Inspect, check, service, and repair heat exchangers and superchargers. 19. Inspect, check, service, troubleshoot, and repair reciprocating and turbine engine ignition systems. AV 281-4 POWERPLANT 04 20. Install, troubleshoot, and remove propellers. 21. Repair propeller control system components. 22. Inspect, check, service, and repair fixed-pitched, constant speed, and feathering propellers and propeller governing systems. 23. Repair engine lubrication system components. 24. Inspect, check, service, troubleshoot, and repair engine lubrication systems. 25. Identify and select lubricants. 26. Balance propellers. 27. Inspect, check, and service water injection systems, exchangers, and superchargers. 28. Inspect, check, service, troubleshoot, and repair reciprocating and turbine engine fuel metering systems. 29. Inspect, check, service, and repair propeller synchronizing and ice control systems. 30. Repair engine fuel metering system components. 31. Identify and select propeller lubricants.
