MUS 108 - Music in World Cultures
Associated Term: Spring 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: 1. Identify forms of music and their cultural contexts. 2. Identify relations between language and musical arts. 3. Identify how music mingles with religions, spiritual values and individual and community identity building. 4. Understand the role of music in globalization as a modern phenomenon. 5. Understand the impact of world music as a means of supporting world peace, breaking down barriers between peoples. 6. Research music of local minority populations to understand music as an art form in its own right. 7. Articulate the role of music in international films and dance genres.
