MUS 103 - Songwriting Techniques and Analysis 1
Associated Term: Spring 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: 1. Analyze a song in terms of form, key signature, time signature, genre and instrumentation. 2. Develop a concept for artistic and well-crafted song sections. (verses, choruses, etc.). 3. Understand and be able to apply techniques for integrating words and music. 4. Read and create chord charts or lead sheet for songs. 5. Discuss and communicate ideas about a song using appropriate technical terminology. 6. Understand and use chords commonly found in popular music. 7. Develop an ethical and aesthetic awareness respecting the delineation between original ideas and plagiarized ideas. 8. Become aware of their accountability for choosing their texts, subject matter and emotional tone.
