Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Distinguish between connotation and denotation and demonstrate how the connotative language helps shape major points of literary text (poem, play, story). 2. Understand some of the key textual, technical, and theoretical connections between African American drama, poetry, and film representations. 3. Comprehend the historical, social, and educational influences on the development of black poetry, drama, and film creation/production. 4. Be aware of important biographical and critically relevant information that will give students a firmer grasp on the interconnectedness of the materials. 5.
