Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Develop background knowledge of English language history. 2. Use the elements of a standard dictionary, including diacritical markings, definitions, etymology, and parts of speech. 3. Use affixes and roots to unlock the meaning of words. 4. Use troublesome homonyms and problematic words correctly. 5. Demonstrate ability to use synonyms and antonyms appropriately, including the use of the thesaurus. 6.
