BT 112 - Team Building Skills
Associated Term: Spring 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Understand the importance of teams in today’s business workplace. 2. Understand and identify the stages of team development. 3. Understand trust, and its influence on teams. 4. Understand motivation and the difference between motivating a team and an individual. 5. Understand the importance of matching team values with individual values. 6. Understand diversity and how it can improve overall team performance. 7. Understand workplace cultures and the influence on individual and group behavior. 8. Identify online and interpersonal communication options and how to eliminate potential barriers to communication. 9. Identify the roles and responsibilities of the team members. 10. Understand personality indicators, leadership qualities, and how these may translate into team roles. 11. Learn the elements of developing and supporting a successful team. 12. Conduct effective team meetings complete with agendas and minutes. 13. Know the different methods used for team decision making and practice creative solutions to problems such as brainstorming, multi-voting, and the Nominal Group Technique. 14. Learn the tools for collecting data, process mapping, and data relationships, and how to use the data to make informed decisions. 15. Understand basic data analysis and how to convert data collected into simple charts and graphs. 16. Understand how to effectively communicate with difficult coworkers. 17. Know how to build team identity, ensuring a link with the organization’s mission and culture. 18. Understand project management basics. 19. Demonstrate presentation skills incorporating visuals. 20. Act, dress, and speak in a professional manner. 21. Form a self-directed team and launch it for success culminating with a written report and team presentation.
