LA 100 - Legal Procedures
Associated Term: Winter 2014
Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Describe the roles and duties of legal support personnel and lawyers. 2. Explain the Oregon Code of Professional Responsibility, the NALS Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility, and common ethical issues facing legal assistants. 3. Demonstrate administrative procedures specific to law offices, such as filing, mail processing, timekeeping, billing, and docket control. 4. Identify common legal research materials and the role of legal research and analysis involving legal disputes. 5. Accurately prepare specialized legal documents with emphasis on formatting, punctuation, capitalization, word division, and number usage. 6. Apply legal terminology in context. 7. Identify and create non-court documents and standardized legal forms. 8. Describe basic requirements for filing documents with the court. 9. Develop a forms file.
